I was out and about driving today and while passing a small used car lot, something very strange caught my eye:

Kinja'd!!!

I looped around a went to take a look at this mysterious Isuzu product. The emblems said it was an Isuzu Oasis. While on my initial passing, I clearly saw it was a minivan, but now as I was able to stop and really look at it, it turns out it is a badge-engineered Honda Odyssey. Minivans were so much tinier back in the 90's.....

Kinja'd!!!

I was today-years-old when I found out the Isuzu Oasis existed so I had to do some reasearch and came across this AutoTrader article explaining what the Oasis is about:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The price in the window said $2100. It has a bit of rust, dings and scrapes, but something this odd still has me a bit interested. Especially since its basically a Honda and should probably run forever.

They were a rebadged Odyssey.

They were plagued with oil consumption and transmission issues.

Honda and Isuzu had a few collaborations over the years. The first two generations of Passport were just a Rodeo with a Honda badge, and the Acura SLX was an Isuzu Trooper in drag.

The real odd duck of the minivan world I think was the Mercury Villager. You’d think Mercury would just tart up an Aerostar to get their own van but instead it was a rebadged Nissan Quest.

If I had one, I’d order extra Oasis badges, and them use the extra “O” and a dremel so I could drive around an Isuzu “Oops”

I have only ever seen a half dozen of those. Earlier today I saw a Mitsubishi Ra ider though. Possibly rarer.

I saw a Suzuki Equator the other day... Had to double-take to make sure it was real.

There’s a video of a guy who swapped a reverse-flow H22 into a 1G Odyssey, and now i’d like to do that to an Oasis, just for the WTF factor.

Hmm, yeah I would have assumed those shared a platform with the Windstar

T his was part of the deal that brought the Isuzu Rodeo to Honda dealerships as the Honda Passport, and the Isuzu Trooper to Acura as the SLX.

There was one of those listed locally on CL - looks like the listing has expired, but the title was just “Crew cab pickup” with no mention of branding other than what could be seen in the pics.

My friend’s dad used to have an Oldsmobile Silhouette. The only plus is that he can probably spell that word now. That was a pile of garbage.

The power doors broke, so he had to slam it into reverse to get them to close. Good luck opening them in the first place though.

For a while my mom had a Pontiac Montana that she accidentally won in an online auction. Served us well for a few years until one of the sliding doors actually fell off while being opened.

While most of them have disappeared by now, Isuzu did sell a bunch of those here in Colorado. I still see them more frequently than you'd expect.

Memories! My mom had a 2003 Silhouette in 2006. It was that sand gold with a matching sandy gold interior. I remember having to try multiple times to get the power doors to actually close. And when they didn’t work things weren’t much better.

The thing was bloody great at murdering deer, though. Dad mowed down a deer and it made it out with a missing headlight and a dent in the bonnet above where the headlight used to be.

My grandparents had an Olds Silhouette

EVERYTHING broke on that thing. It was a hunk of junk

But...when it was brand new it was baller. Super loaded with options for the time period

The Oasis is awesome! Too bad Honda doesn;t make the Ody like that anymore :(

They did make a version like that for a few years after they stopped selling them here.

This Ody, the Mazda 5, Kia Rondo, and Chevy Orlando are awesome

I see Raiders and the Suzuki Equator every once and again. But I would argue that another Isuzu, the I-Series pickup is even more obscure than those two. It’s a rebadged 1st Gen Colorado:

I knew someone that had one! At the time, it was actually a pretty nice van inside. It had a digital spe edometer, which I thought was pretty cool at the time.

But wait, the rear doors are just regular doors. Does that make it... a crossover? Way ahead of its time....

When we first started having k ids I really wanted one of the tiny four door Odysseys like this and I cross shopped the Oasis too, although they rarely popped up for sale.

But what I really wanted back when I was more seriously into Minitrucks was a Isuzu Hombre which was just a re- badged S-10 with flared fenders and a completely different front end .

Kinja'd!!!

A popular swap was to stick a Hombre front clip on an S-10 blazer. It made for a very unique looking little SUV.

This past weekend, I saw a Harlequin Golf in Northern Virginia. Apparently less than 250 were ever sold in the U.S. so definitely a unicorn.

Not my picture. The one I saw was in way rougher shape.
